Transorma/Transforma
2006
First ever Free Standing Exterior Float Glass Wall With Kiln Fired Ceramic Frit Colors, Laminated And Tempered (6.5 ft. x 30 ft.)
Silver Spring, Maryland
Photography: David Hellane
The city of Silver Spring requested artwork which referenced a Post Office demolished for new construction. The postal service had proudly previewed their first mechanized sorting machine the ‘Transorma’ at the facility in the early 1940’s. The art glass highlights cancellation stamps with patterns of circles and stripes characterizing the flow of letters. The translucent wall provides privacy for the community and residents without creating a barrier.
