The primary goal of this public work was to provide both a durable and timeless antidote to the frenzy of commuting with a lively, highly crafted installation. This garage serves commuters on Amtrak, Metro and other local and regional bus systems. The mosaic cascades down the main stairwell towers of the enormous structure. Vignettes of color on the column caps are included in the overall scheme. Both esthetic and maintenance issues were addressed within the confines of this competition. The mosaic has proven its durability.
