Departures: A Quintet
2005
Five (5) independent & sequential images in float glass with ceramic melting colors, silk-screened, hand painted, tempered. (660 sq. ft.)
Baltimore-Washington Marshall International Airport, Terminal A/B
Linthicum, Maryland
Commissioned by Maryland Economic Development Authority & Maryland Aviation Authority
Photography: David Hellane
Five contiguous forms utilize the airport connector alleyway to celebrate the wonder of travel. Scissor ramps assist passenger flow allowing broad sequential views of the artwork. A dynamic transition of movement from image to image brings the viewer through both an intimate and monumental narrative in the light filled corridor. The expressive textural forms were derived from the star patterns.
