DAWN & DUSK New Carrollton AMTRAK METRO Garage A brief history of this project. A public art competition was initiated by the necessity of costly repair to trellis structures which encircled the building. Francoise Yohalem, Washington DC based arts consultant, organized a competition utilizing the maintenance budget to stimulate innovative and durable solutions for this massive garage. Heidi Lippman was awarded the contract and consulted with Ben VanDusen of VanDusen Architects LLC for site analysis and project management. Dawn and Dusk 1998 Heidi Lippman Artist: Heidi Lippman Location: New Carrollton, Maryland, Amtrak, Metro, Regional Commissioning Authorities: Washington Metro Area Transportation Authority Project Architect: VanDusen Architects, Washington, DC Fabrication, Installation: Franz Mayer of Munich, Art Consultant: Francoise Yohalem Scale: 2,000 square foot of mosaic cascades down the clock tower and all four exterior stairwell towers and columns Materials Description: The facade mosaics consist of the most valuable glass mosaic materials of Italian and German origin.
